Community Building Through Inclusion and Employee Recognition
Washington Hospital Healthcare System
Fremont, CA

The Morris Hyman Critical Care Pavilion’s patient-focused design promotes comfort and family-centered care.

Early architectural renderings of the entry corridor envisioned an IMAX-like exposition of panoramic scenes that would engage the visitor with images of a caring medical presence, regional community and its place in the world.

As the project evolved, PDG was called upon to develop a Master Plan, the evolution of which provided a guide to create this experience that instead used a multi-media approach to achieve the original grand scale objective, but in a way that allows for use of hospital management of content, and subtle changes of colors and textures when updating physical content.

The corridor-length display works as an inclusive and welcoming statement of care while holding up donors, employees, and caregivers as essential to Washington Hospital achieving its mission. The display is broken up graphically by color and highlights centers of care that represent the hospital's core values. Multiple touchscreen interactive displays allow the viewers to dive deeper into impactful donor stories and much more. PDG was able to work with internal hospital staff as well as one of their local professional photographers to create a dramatic mural graphic illustrating the importance of the communities of donors to Washington Hospital’s past and future.
